The highest flying, fastest, sexiest production plane ever. What else
can be said about the SR-71? It has a history that spans decades, hundreds
of thousands of miles and records that still taunt lesser vehicles, which
is to say, all of them. Yeah, take that, MiG. And Tupolev? *cough*
rivets*cough* Yes, I still get a kick out of that, years
later. I had a hobby in my youth of studying military aircraft that grew
into an obsession. I fell in love with the Blackbird the moment I saw
it. Unfortunately, the closest I have ever gotten to one is the the YF-12
in the Dayton AFB museum. One was decommissioned and placed in New York
for display on an aircraft carrier, but that was after I had been there.
Still, I have books, toys and endless pictures to comfort me.
